Reports in Colombia claim Newcastle want to sign Rangers’ goalscoring machine Alfredo Morelos this summer.
What’s the story?
According to Don Balon, Rafael Benitez wants to bring Morelos to Tyneside this summer.
The report claims Newcastle will launch a £20m bid for the striker who was sent off five times this season.
Benitez is also eyeing a move for Morelos’ compatriot, Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez, but it is unlikely that the Magpies will meet Spurs’ asking price.
Ferocious front three
Morelos is a fantastic player, there’s no doubt about that. At just 22, he smashed in 30 goals in all competitions this term, as well as providing 11 assists, per Transfermarkt.
However, while 41 goal involvements in 48 games is incredible, he also saw red five times and picked up 16 yellow cards, including several off-the-ball incidents.
The youngster lacks the one thing Benitez demands from all his players – discipline.
Loose cannon or vital cog in the Newcastle’s machine? The Magpie Channel think it would be a mistake to sell the player in the video below…
Still, if the Spaniard can calm Morelos down, he would have a young player with a high ceiling and the work rate to stretch opposition defences constantly, leaving space for Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez to thrive in.
He may be ill-disciplined, but a front three of Almiron, Morelos and Perez would have a fabulous mixture of tenacity, speed, skill and movement.
