AS Roma right-back Alessandro Florenzi impressed in his side’s 4-2 win against Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night, and Manchester United fans have urged their club to sign the defender, rated at £22.5m by Transfermarkt.
The 27-year-old was handed the task of taming Sadio Mane in the Italian capital, and while the Senegal international did get on the score-sheet within 10 minutes following some poor play from Radja Nainggolan, the Italy international otherwise did a decent job of containing the dangerous winger, while also providing a threat from an attacking point of view.
Florenzi’s contract with the Serie A outfit is due to run out next summer, and with no new deal yet agreed he could be on the move this summer, with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho potentially looking for a long-term replacement for his current first-choice right-back, Antonio Valencia.
Man United supporters, who are split on the future of their stand-in captain on Twitter, were quick to have their say on the Italian’s latest display via social media, and while one said “Florenzi would be such an upgrade on Valencia”, another said they “would love Florenzi at United”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
