Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after they saw that Everton’s out-on-loan striker Cenk Tosun had scored against Manchester City.
Why would this concern Liverpool?
Well, Jurgen Klopp’s side and Everton are Merseyside rivals, and with the Citizens being Liverpool’s rivals for the title this season, the fact that a Toffees player netted against them and ultimately stopped them from winning seems to have gone down well at Anfield.
Incidentally, 28-year-old Tosun scored the opening goal at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, which helped Roy Hodgson’s side grab a 2-2 draw and take an unlikely point back to south London with them.
Also, it means that Pep Guardiola’s side dropped two more points in the title race, which left them 13 points behind Liverpool before the Reds’ game against Manchester United on Sunday had even kicked off.
While that result would’ve been pleasing for Liverpool fans anyway – presumably – it has been made all the more sweeter because an Everton player directly contributed to it happening.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying…
To kick off the reaction, one supporter with the username ‘Stanley House’ jokingly said that “this is why I adore this city” before saying that Liverpool and Everton have “united” to bring the title to Anfield – they then added that “it brings a tear to my eye”.
Also, another fan with the username ‘Anything Liverpool’ said “fair play to Everton” for loaning Tosun out and trying to help them win the league.
Elsewhere, these three fans all described Carlo Ancelotti’s side as “the Ev” before making their respective points.
Tom said “how kind” of the Toffees before saying “cheers lads” while Dylan said that it was “typical Ev behaviour” for them to loan a player out, only to see him inadvertently help their rivals.
The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?
Lastly, Josh asked if Everton should be thanked for Crystal Palace’s draw, before calling Tosun a “lad”.
Lastly, this supporter used laughing emojis to mock the Toffees for the incident, before saying “thank you” to Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals.
