Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy is reported to be suspicious of Arsenal and their interest in goalkeeper target Hugo Lloris, according to The Metro today.
Levy suspects Gunners boss Arsene Wenger may have feigned interest in Lloris so that Lyon manager Remi Garde, who played under Wenger for three years, would up the asking price for the Frenchman.
Spurs are weighing up their options for a goalkeeping Number 1, as 41 year old Brad Friedel enters the last year of his current contract, and is expected to announce his retirement when the upcoming season concludes. Arsenal however, have three goalkeepers available to choose from, meaning their supposed interest in the French captain may have been only a ploy.
Andre Villas-Boas’ side are only willing to offer £13 million for the 25 year old goalkeeper, whilst Lyon have valued him at £16 million.
Arsene Wenger announced this morning that he expects to bring in some more new signings ahead of the new season, having only made two so far. Lloris is not believed to be a target, as Wenger doubts his ability to cope with the physicality of the English game. However, the Gunners have been heavily linked with Malaga’s Santi Cazorla, and Wenger has voiced his admiration for the 27 year old.
