Now in it’s 27th season the Premier League is bigger and better than ever thanks to sponsorship deals, the quality of the teams and it’s coverage around the world.
Since it’s inception in 1992, there have been some incredible moments that have helped it be regarded as the ‘best league in the world’.
Having been born in 1992, I have grown up in the Premier League era and would always back myself in a Premier League trivia quiz, but there are some facts that I simply missed.
Whether it’s who has missed the most penalties or who has won a Premier League title without playing a single game, these 20 facts blew my mind and I’m guessing they will shock you too.
Man United’s Home Record
The Red Devils have never lost a Premier League game at Old Trafford when they have been leading at half-time.
An incredible feat in 26 years since the league started, largely thanks to Sir Alex Ferguson.
Triple Threat
There are only three players who have scored, assisted and scored an own goal in the same Premier League game.
Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale and Kevin Davies are those players, both Rooney and Bale achieved theirs in 2012.
Balotelli’s Assist
Italian forward Mario Balotelli has been criticised for many years for his attitude on and off the pitch.
But in 2012 he assisted Sergio Aguero for Manchester City’s winning goal against QPR which won them their first Premier League title.
That was Balotelli’s one and only assist in his Premier League career., what a time to get it.
Ryan Giggs Sub Stat
Being the second highest in terms of Premier League appearances made, Ryan Giggs’ stats are all very impressive.
He is also the player who has been substituted the most times, as he saw his number on the fourth official’s board 134 times.
Most Penalty Misses
This fact you have to take with a pinch of salt, as although Alan Shearer missed 11 Premier League penalties in his career, he did score 56 of them.
Double-Footed Penalties
Talking of penalties, Bobby Zamora and Obafemi Martins have both proven themselves from the spot with both feet.
Impressive or just showing off?
West Ham’s Goal Difference
In terms of Premier League years, the Hammers haven’t been exactly the kind of team to score many goals, meaning they are usually mid-table or battling relegation.
In 2015/16, they achieved something they had never achieved in the Premier League, finishing the season with a positive goal difference.
Golden Oldies
Gordan Strachan is the only player born before 1960 to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, which he achieved in 1993 against Blackburn Rovers.
Young Hat-Tricks
Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku weren’t even born when the first Premier League season started.
They are the only players born after August 1992 who have bagged themselves a PL hat-trick.
