Crystal Palace fans were quick to react on Twitter as the team news for their U23 clash against Millwall on Monday was announced, and as well as some much-needed game time for a couple of returning players, the absence of Victor Camarasa was a big talking point.
Mamadou Sakho, Connor Wickham and Jairo Riedewald were all named in the starting XI against the Lions, but their Spanish teammate was nowhere to be seen.
Eagles supporters were excited when the south London outfit agreed a loan deal to bring the 25-year-old to Selhurst Park, but it has been a disastrous move for both parties thus far.
The former Cardiff City man has only played five minutes of Premier League football this term, and has been omitted from Roy Hodgson’s matchday squad completely in six of their previous eight top flight fixtures, including on Saturday against Liverpool.
Camarasa has also been linked with a January switch to Norwich City (The Sun, November 17, page 67) should his loan spell be cut short early, and he was a talking point again on Monday.
Meanwhile, other fans preferred to focus on the senior players that did feature against the Lions, with Sakho and Wickham in particular potentially having a big part to play in the coming weeks and months when they are fully fit. However, it appears as though Riedewald still has to settle for the bulk of his football coming at a reserves level.
