It’s fair to say that Fabio Borini’s stint in the Premier League has so far been a rather changeable one to say the very least. The former Italian international has seemingly never quite settled in the English top-flight, regardless of the promising form he has nonetheless shown at times.
Nowadays however, the 24-year-old striker’s spell on these here shores looks like it could be coming to an abrupt end. Liverpool reportedly want rid of the forward, among several other ousted stars at the club, to ‘balance their books’ before the summer transfer window eventually comes to a close.
Whilst the former Chelsea and Roma man may not have quite delivered at Anfield to the level many had initially hoped for upon his arrival on Merseyside, the out of form front-man still seems to have a few options open this summer. Inter Milan supposedly want to take a punt on the Italian, despite both Sunderland and West Ham being linked with the no. 29 ahead of the upcoming season.

So then, seeing as this once promising asset seems to be completely finished under Brendan Rodgers, just what does the future hold Liverpool’s Fabio Borini?
Firstly, it seems reasonable to suggest that Borini could have made an impact at Anfield had his circumstances played out somewhat differently. Although the advent of hindsight invariably proves a wonderfully useless tool at times, several names within the English footballing community understandably believed that Brendan Rodgers could work wonders with the young Italian attacker – considering the promising partnership both parties had enjoyed whist operating at Swansea City.
The current Liverpool struggler left a pretty solid impression on Swans fans after his loan spell began and ended at their club in 2011. Rodgers and Borini had also worked together behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge prior to the move, so when the former Italian international started impressing at the Liberty Stadium, such a notion hardly arrived as much of a surprise with all things considered.
However, as the Anfield faithful would certainly concede by now, such a promising partnership has so far completely failed to produce the goods at Liverpool. Maybe Fabio Borini simply doesn’t have what it takes to cut it in such a high pressure situation, or perhaps Brendan Rodgers himself is the one to blame for failing to offer the striker much of a role at his new club – either way – the ex-Chelsea academy graduate just hasn’t done the business whilst playing for the Reds.
Even with such a damning notion in mind for the quick-footed front-man though, that simply doesn’t mean that Fabio Borini is now finished at the highest level. On the contrary, the slower pace of the Italian league could nevertheless play into the hands on the striker this season, if the reported interest from Inter Milan turns out to be more than mere paper talk and speculation.
If Borini is offered an adequate chance to prove himself at the San Siro by Roberto Mancini, the current Liverpool outcast could well impress the European footballing community once again – and maybe even stake a claim back among the Italian national squad if he’s lucky.
But should the out-of-sorts striker simply end his spell in the Premier League regardless of what takes place this summer? The answer could well be, no. Fabio Borini could potentially work wonders at a club such as West Ham United – where the pressure would likely be lifted somewhat and a great deal more freedom of expression would be issued to him out on the pitch.
Sunderland as well, a club in which Borini previously enjoyed a very profitable loan spell, would also possibly represent a promising move for the Italian – just as long as a player of his mould still remains relevant to the new boss down at the Stadium of Light.
The player himself is only 24-years-old after all. He is therefore just approaching the peak years of his career, and could well turn the tables on his so far infrequent spell in the English top-flight.
Ultimately then, whilst the level of competition for places at Liverpool would suggest that his playing days at Anfield are all but done, Fabio Borini still has just enough potential about him to make it at the highest level – whether that be in the Premier League or beyond this summer…
