Tottenham Hotspur can finally play without the burden of pressure.
Against Bayern Munich, on Wednesday, they have a genuine free hit. Both clubs are qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League and the German giants are guaranteed to be finishing top of the group.
Jose Mourinho, the manager, has already confirmed that Harry Kane, his captain while Hugo Lloris is injured, won’t play, and this finally feels like a chance for Spurs to look to the future and bring through a few kids.
Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?
Troy Parrott could be a chief beneficiary, taking Kane’s spot and potentially making his European debut in the same week he made his Premier League debut. Not bad for a 17-year-old.
Then there are the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters, Juan Foyth, the goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman; all three could play some part in the fixture.
Now, of course, Spurs were embarrassed by Bayern last time out. They lost 7-2 in north London in what could fairly be termed as a massacre.
There could be the motivation of revenge here, but instead, Spurs are set to take a breather ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wolves in the Premier League.
And this, really, is a win-win for Mourinho and for Spurs.
Record a surprising victory in Munich and the youngsters in the team suddenly become stars overnight, genuine options in the first-team and their stock rises ever higher.
Lose against a stronger Bayern side and it’s a learning experience, a lesson to be learned by the younger players who will emerge stronger for the experience.
This weekend, against Wolves, Spurs need to win; they are actually one point behind Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, sitting seventh while Wanderers are sixth.
But Mourinho has played this perfectly, playing down the significance of the game and promising to give fans a preview of the next generation.
The pressure is off, it remains to be seen how this youthful Spurs side will react.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has unlocked one Spurs ace’s consistency.
